The Benefits of Symbian Foundation Membership

Through input from members, new member programs are always in development. Here is where the list stands today:

  • The ability to influence the evolution of the Symbian platform, through the right to vote in annual elections, the opportunity to become a package owner, and eligibility for seats on the Symbian Foundation board and the technology Councils
  • Web-based programs that increase revenues for members. An example of these can be found on the Services pages of the developer website. These pages generate qualified sales leads for members
  • The right to access the introductions service. We provide introductions between members, at the correct level (executive, technical, marketing, sales)
  • Greater patent rights than non-members: The Eclipse Public License grants patent rights to software and software combinations only; the member patent policy additionally grants patent rights software-hardware combinations
  • Access to Symbian media channels. We promote members who have made significant contributions to the platform and to the community on our blogs, tweets, email shots and newsletters
  • Presence in the Member Directory, for themselves and their subsidiaries
  • The right to designate their subsidiary companies as Affiliate Members. Affiliate Members receive the same benefits as members, with the exception of voting rights
  • Member-serviceable pages on www.symbian.org. Members have their own user name and password for the Symbian community site, and can upload and update their profile on the Member Directory, post links to demos and videos and add their own news and events
  • Free presence at Mobile World Congress, in the Symbian member demo booth and Symbian lounge
  • Discounts for exhibition and sponsorship at the Symbian Exchange & Exposition (SEE). For most levels of sponsorship, the discount is greater than the cost of membership
  • Free member-only regional events, where you can find out the latest from Symbian and talk to other regional industry leaders


What's the cost of all this goodness? Membership is open to any firm, company, corporation, partnership, association or university or other similar entity (excluding individuals) that accepts the terms of membership, for an annual fee of $1500 USD plus VAT (where applicable).


The Process

The first step to becoming a member of the Symbian Foundation is to complete this electronic Membership Application Form. Handwritten forms cannot be submitted. Need to know more about the process before getting started? Read our Application Process Overview.


Once you press the SUBMIT button on the last page, the designated Main Contact for your company will receive, within 24 hours, an emailed copy of the Symbian Foundation Legal Agreements, which must then be printed, reviewed, signed and faxed back.


Your application will be reviewed with the information you provide together with your signed Legal Agreement(s). We’ll then let you know about the status of your application. It may take up to four weeks for us to process an application, so please be patient!


Payment can be by credit card, or by invoice sent directly to your firm. Please note, your company will not become a member until you are approved and payment of the membership fee is received.

What's in the Form?

The Application Form consists of four short sections:

  • Billing Details


Your Company, Member Contact Details and Billing Details will be kept confidential.

  • Ensure all sections are completed correctly and fully. Information cannot be updated after it's been submitted to us.
  • All fields marked with an * must be completed before pressing the SUBMIT button.
  • Please only hit the SUBMIT button once. Submitting the form multiple times may delay your application.
  • If the designated ‘main contact’ has not received your legal documents within 24 hours, check your spam filter for an email from info at symbian dot org. If the legal documents are not there, please contact us through our online form.
